In 2002 the Journal of Political and Military Sociology(JPMS) celebrated its 30th anniversary. The JPMS has come a long way since its inception in 1973. Over the years it has served both the political and military sociology scholarly communities by advancing and disseminating social science knowledge in these sub-fields and fairly new areas of social sciences.
During its annual convention in Chicago on August 19,2002, the Political Sociology section of the American Sociological Association(ASA) awarded the journal for its 30th anniversary and for its continuous scholarly contributions to both fields. Similar celebrations in honor of the JPMS were held by the civil-military relations section of the International Political Science Association(IPSA) In June,2002 in its bi-annual conference held in Bucharest,Romania. Also a reception was held in Thrace,Greece during the International Conference on Ethnic Identities and Globalization in the same month and year.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Sociology at Northern Illinois University organized similar receptions in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Journal in 2002. Friends and Scholars who worked and assisted the Journal in the past and are currently serving as Associate members sent messages and comments on this occasion.
